Sticks and Stones

My mom and niece were at the local zoo this week. It was a weekday, so there were school children all around. My niece is a free spirit who loves tea parties, anything sparkly or zebra print and Ninja Turtles. She also likes to dress herself; normally a little more eccentric than other kids, but everything she wears screams her personality. As the two of them were passing a group of school kids my niece (Beans) overheard the kids making fun of her clothes. She looked at my mom and said, “Nannie, those kids were making fun of me.” My mom looked back at here and said something I heard oh so much during my childhood, “Sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Continue reading
